Is Google maps a widget?

I think it is!
  1. it's a service (so what if it's a smart service).
  2. you can use it anywhere.
  3. it's mashable
One might think reading this list that a widget has to be mashable, that means it has to have an api opened to the world.
where the truth is that a widget is more of a personalized component which google maps isn't.

maybe google maps isn't a widget? sure it is just needed to be more personal.
for instance if could have an ID on google maps, not a developer ID but my own personal ID which could be recognized and used by mashes using google maps (anybody said realestat, job sites?).

this id concept should be thought about more, not only google maps way..

how can widgets change the picture

First there was Html, well not first but very fast.
Then came web 2.0, well not just after but soon enough.
what's next? widgets?
instead of getting data/service at a specific place, we want it everywhere.

lets take a look a the big names of web 2.0 so far:
  • flickr: bring on your pics and spread them everywhere.
  • YouTube: bring on your clips and spread them everywhere.
  • myspace: where people bring their stuff on.
